Itinerary

Agra is a city that is steeped in history and culture, and there are plenty of things to see and do here. Here's an ideal itinerary for 3 days in Agra:

Day 1:

  • Start your day early with a visit to the Taj Mahal, one of the most iconic landmarks in India. This stunning white marble mausoleum was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The best time to visit the Taj Mahal is at sunrise when the light is soft and the crowds are thinner.
  • After visiting the Taj Mahal, head to Agra Fort, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. This red sandstone fort was built by Emperor Akbar in the 16th century and served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors until the capital was shifted to Delhi.
  • In the evening, you can explore the local markets and try some delicious street food.

Day 2:

  • Start your day with a visit to Fatehpur Sikri, a deserted city located about 40 km from Agra. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was built by Emperor Akbar in the 16th century and served as the capital of the Mughal Empire for a brief period. The city is known for its stunning architecture and is a must-visit for history buffs.
  • After returning to Agra, you can visit the Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah, also known as the Baby Taj. This beautiful tomb was built by Nur Jahan, the wife of Jahangir, for her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg. The tomb is made of white marble and is adorned with intricate carvings and inlay work.
  • In the evening, you can take a stroll along the banks of the Yamuna River and enjoy the sunset.

Day 3:

  • Start your day with a visit to the Mehtab Bagh, a beautiful garden located across the Yamuna River from the Taj Mahal. This garden offers stunning views of the Taj Mahal and is a great place to relax and unwind.
  • After visiting the Mehtab Bagh, you can head to the Akbar's Tomb, located in Sikandra, about 10 km from Agra. This tomb was built by Emperor Akbar himself and is a beautiful example of Mughal architecture.
  • In the evening, you can visit the local bazaars and shop for souvenirs to take back home.

I hope this itinerary helps you plan your trip to Agra!
