14 day itinerary
Bahamaas
Itinerary
For a first 14-day trip to The Bahamas, I’d mix Nassau’s history and food with the quieter Out Islands—especially and . You’ll get beach time, boating, local culture, and a few slower days rather than trying to cram in too many islands.
Days 1–4: Nassau &
Day 1 — Arrive in Nassau
Check in, unpack, and keep it easy. Take a stroll along or around downtown Nassau, then enjoy a relaxed Bahamian dinner—try conch fritters, cracked conch, or grilled fish.
Day 2 — Nassau’s historic heart
Visit , , and the . Wander through downtown and the Straw Market, then take a break at the hotel before dinner near the waterfront.
Day 3 —
Spend the day at . You can visit the , enjoy the beach, or book a day pass at a resort if that appeals. In the evening, have dinner on the island or head back to Nassau.
Day 4 — Water day or a quieter local beach
Choose a snorkelling or sailing trip—some tours visit nearby reefs and small cays—or make it a slower beach day at . If you’d like a cultural stop, check out for a casual lunch or dinner.
Days 5–9:
Day 5 — Travel to
Fly or ferry from Nassau to , then transfer by water taxi and taxi to . Travel takes a bit of coordination, so leave plenty of time. After checking in, take a gentle walk around and settle in.
Day 6 —
Spend the day at —swim, stroll, and rent a bicycle or golf cart to explore. Pack water and sun protection; beach facilities can be limited depending on where you go.
Day 7 — and local flavours
Explore the island’s colourful streets, small shops, and historic buildings. Have a long, leisurely lunch, then return to the beach for the afternoon. Dinner is a good time to try fresh seafood or a Bahamian curry.
Day 8 — Boat excursion
Book a local boat trip for snorkelling, reef stops, or a sandbar visit. Ask your operator what’s included and whether the weather and sea conditions are suitable. Keep the evening free for a relaxed meal.
Day 9 — A no-schedule island day
Sleep in, choose a favourite stretch of beach, and do very little. If you’re feeling more adventurous, ask locally about a guided outing on neighbouring rather than arranging a complicated trip yourself.
Days 10–13:
Day 10 — Transfer to
Head back to and continue to your accommodation on . It’s a long, narrow island, so choose one base rather than trying to cover the whole thing. Spend the afternoon swimming or unwinding near your lodging.
Day 11 — and northern
Explore the dramatic area and nearby lookouts. Conditions can be rough, so admire the water from a safe distance and follow local advice. Stop at a beach or roadside café, then return before dark.
Day 12 — or a local beach day
If you’re based nearby and logistics work, revisit for a beach day. Otherwise, explore a closer beach and enjoy a slow lunch. An easy day is welcome after several travel and sightseeing days!
Day 13 — Choose your own adventure
Pick a guided snorkelling or fishing trip, visit a local settlement, or spend one last full day on the beach. Keep the evening relaxed and pack ahead of your travel day.
Day 14 — Return to Nassau and depart
Allow a generous buffer for transfers and flights. Depending on your international departure time, you may need to return to Nassau the day before instead—inter-island schedules can be limited and change seasonally, so check flights and ferries before booking your accommodation.
A few handy tips
- Build in flexibility: island transfers and boat trips are weather- and schedule-dependent.
- Book key transport early: especially flights, ferries, and transfers.
- Choose your base carefully: distances are longer than they look, and local transport can be limited.
- Check entry, safety, and beach conditions before travelling; swim only where conditions are safe.
If you’d rather spend less time moving around, you could swap for extra days in Nassau or choose just one Out Island.
