Itinerary
Here's an ideal itinerary for 4 days in Maui:
Day 1:
- Start your day with a sunrise at Haleakala National Park. This is a must-do activity when visiting Maui. You can either drive up to the summit or take a guided tour. The view from the top is breathtaking and worth waking up early for.
- After watching the sunrise, head back down to the town of Paia for breakfast. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from, but I recommend checking out Cafe Mambo for their delicious breakfast burritos and smoothie bowls.
- Spend the afternoon exploring the Road to Hana. This scenic drive takes you through lush rainforests, past waterfalls, and along the coast. Make sure to stop at some of the lookout points and take short hikes to see some of the hidden gems along the way.
- End your day with dinner at Mama's Fish House. This iconic restaurant serves up fresh seafood in a beautiful beachfront setting.
Day 2:
- Start your day with a snorkeling trip to Molokini Crater. This crescent-shaped island is a popular spot for snorkeling and diving due to its crystal-clear waters and abundance of marine life.
- After your snorkeling adventure, head to Lahaina for lunch. This historic town has plenty of restaurants and shops to explore. I recommend checking out Lahaina Grill for their delicious Hawaiian-inspired cuisine.
- Spend the afternoon relaxing on one of Maui's beautiful beaches. Kaanapali Beach and Wailea Beach are both great options.
- End your day with a sunset dinner cruise. There are several companies that offer dinner cruises, but I recommend checking out Trilogy Excursions for their delicious food and stunning views.
Day 3:
- Start your day with a hike to the Nakalele Blowhole. This natural wonder shoots water high into the air as waves crash against the rocks. The hike is short but steep, so make sure to wear sturdy shoes.
- After your hike, head to the town of Makawao for lunch. This charming town has a laid-back vibe and plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from. I recommend checking out Komoda Store & Bakery for their famous cream puffs.
- Spend the afternoon exploring Maui's upcountry. This area is known for its rolling hills, farms, and stunning views. Check out the Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm or take a tour of a local coffee plantation.
- End your day with dinner at Merriman's. This farm-to-table restaurant serves up delicious Hawaiian cuisine in a beautiful setting.
Day 4:
- Start your day with a visit to the Maui Ocean Center. This aquarium showcases Hawaii's marine life and is a great way to learn more about the ocean ecosystem.
- After your visit to the aquarium, head to the town of Kihei for lunch. This beach town has plenty of casual restaurants and cafes to choose from. I recommend checking out Coconut's Fish Cafe for their delicious fish tacos.
- Spend the afternoon exploring Maui's west side. Check out the historic town of Lahaina or take a stroll along the beachfront boardwalk in Kaanapali.
- End your day with a luau. There are several luaus to choose from on Maui, but I recommend checking out the Old Lahaina Luau for their authentic Hawaiian experience.
