Monterey is such a beautiful place, and there’s plenty to do that’s perfect for families with little ones. Here’s a fun and engaging 3-day itinerary that will keep everyone entertained and create some wonderful memories!
Morning: Monterey Bay Aquarium Start your adventure at the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium. It’s a fantastic place for kids and adults alike! The colorful exhibits, especially the jellyfish and the sea otters, are sure to captivate your little ones. Don’t forget to check out the touch pools where kids can gently interact with sea stars and other marine life. Plan to spend a couple of hours here.
Lunch: Cannery Row After the aquarium, stroll over to Cannery Row. There are plenty of family-friendly restaurants. Try The Fish Hopper for some delicious seafood with a view, or Louie Linguini’s for a more casual vibe with pasta and pizza options that kids love.
Afternoon: Dennis the Menace Park Post-lunch, head to Dennis the Menace Park. This park is a hit with kids! It has a giant wooden train, a maze, and plenty of slides and climbing structures. It’s a great place for the kids to burn off some energy while you relax on a bench or join in on the fun!
Evening: Sunset at the Beach Wrap up your day with a visit to Lovers Point Park. It’s a lovely spot to watch the sunset. Bring a blanket and some snacks for a little picnic while the kids can play in the sand.
Morning: Point Lobos State Natural Reserve Start your day with a visit to Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. It’s a short drive from Monterey and offers stunning coastal views and easy walking trails. The Sea Lion Point Trail is perfect for families and offers a chance to see sea lions and other wildlife. Just keep an eye on the little ones near the cliffs!
Lunch: Picnic at Point Lobos Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the designated picnic areas in the reserve. There are plenty of scenic spots to sit and enjoy your meal while surrounded by nature.
Afternoon: Whale Watching Tour After lunch, consider a whale watching tour. Many companies offer family-friendly options, and it’s a thrilling experience for kids to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Just make sure to check the age restrictions, as some tours may have minimum age requirements.
Evening: Dinner in Pacific Grove Head to Pacific Grove for dinner. The Red House Cafe is a cozy spot with a great menu that caters to families. After dinner, take a stroll along the Asilomar State Beach to enjoy the evening breeze and maybe spot some tide pools.
Morning: Explore the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History Kick off your final day at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History.
