Itinerary

Naples is a beautiful city with so much to see and do. Here's an ideal itinerary for 2 days in Naples:

Day 1:

  • Start your day with a visit to the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, which houses one of the world's finest collections of Greco-Roman artifacts.
  • After that, head to the historic center of Naples, where you can explore the narrow streets and alleys lined with colorful buildings and shops selling everything from handmade pasta to artisanal crafts.
  • Stop by Piazza del Plebiscito, one of the largest public squares in Italy, and admire the stunning architecture of the Royal Palace and the Church of San Francesco di Paola.
  • For lunch, try some authentic Neapolitan pizza at one of the many pizzerias in the city. Some of the best ones include Sorbillo, Di Matteo, and Da Michele.
  • In the afternoon, take a stroll along the seafront promenade of Lungomare Caracciolo, which offers breathtaking views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.
  • End your day with a visit to the Castel dell'Ovo, a medieval castle located on a small island in the harbor. The castle is open until late at night, so you can enjoy the sunset over the sea from its ramparts.

Day 2:

  • Start your day with a trip to Pompeii, the ancient Roman city buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. You can take a train from Naples to Pompeii Scavi station, which is just a short walk from the archaeological site.
  • Spend the morning exploring the ruins of Pompeii, which include well-preserved houses, temples, theaters, and public buildings. Don't miss the famous plaster casts of the victims of the eruption.
  • For lunch, head back to Naples and try some street food at the Mercato di Porta Nolana, one of the city's oldest and most colorful markets. You can find everything from fried pizza to fresh seafood.
  • In the afternoon, take a funicular up to the hilltop neighborhood of Vomero, which offers panoramic views of the city and the bay. Visit the Castel Sant'Elmo, a medieval fortress that now houses a museum of contemporary art.
  • End your day with a visit to the Catacombs of San Gennaro, an underground cemetery dating back to the early Christian era. The catacombs are located in the Rione Sanità neighborhood, which is also known for its street art and vibrant nightlife.

I hope this itinerary helps you make the most of your time in Naples!
