Portugal is a beautiful country with so much to offer. Here's an ideal itinerary for 3 days in Portugal that will allow you to explore the best of what this country has to offer at a relaxed pace.
Day 1: Lisbon
Start your day by exploring the historic district of Alfama, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Lisbon. Take a stroll through its narrow streets and alleys, and admire the colorful buildings and stunning views of the Tagus River. You can also visit the , which is located in the heart of Alfama.
Next, head to the Belem district, where you can see some of Lisbon's most iconic landmarks, such as the and the . These two sites are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are must-see attractions when visiting Lisbon.
In the afternoon, take a break from sightseeing and enjoy some delicious Portuguese cuisine. Head to a local restaurant and try some traditional dishes like bacalhau (salt cod) or grilled sardines.
End your day by taking a ride on the famous Tram 28, which takes you through some of Lisbon's most picturesque neighborhoods.
Day 2: Sintra
On your second day, take a day trip to Sintra, a charming town located just outside of Lisbon. Sintra is known for its stunning palaces and castles, including the Pena Palace, which is a colorful palace perched on top of a hill overlooking the town.
Take a tour of the palace and its gardens, and then head to the Castle of the Moors, which is another impressive castle located nearby. From there, you can hike to the Cruz Alta viewpoint, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
In the afternoon, head back to Lisbon and spend some time exploring the trendy neighborhood of Bairro Alto. This area is known for its lively nightlife, so be sure to check out some of the local bars and clubs.
Day 3: Porto
On your final day, take a train to Porto, a beautiful city located in northern Portugal. Start your day by exploring the historic Ribeira district, which is located on the banks of the Douro River. Take a stroll along the riverfront and admire the colorful buildings and stunning views of the Dom Luis I Bridge.
Next, head to the famous Port wine cellars, where you can learn about the history of Port wine and sample some of the best wines in the region. You can also take a boat tour along the Douro River and see the city from a different perspective.
In the afternoon, visit the Livraria Lello, which is one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. This stunning bookstore was even said to have inspired J.K. Rowling when she was writing the Harry Potter series.
End your day by enjoying a delicious dinner at one of Porto's many seafood restaurants, and then head back to Lisbon for your flight home.
