10 day itinerary for Rome

Rome is a city that is rich in history, culture, and cuisine. With so much to see and do, it can be overwhelming to plan an itinerary for 10 days. But don't worry, I'm here to help you make the most of your time in the Eternal City.

Day 1: Arrival and Orientation

Upon arrival, check into your hotel and take some time to get oriented. Take a stroll around your neighborhood and explore the local shops and restaurants. In the evening, head to Piazza Navona, one of Rome's most beautiful squares, and enjoy dinner at one of the many outdoor cafes.

Day 2: Ancient Rome

Start your day with a visit to the Colosseum, one of Rome's most iconic landmarks. Afterward, head to the nearby Roman Forum and Palatine Hill to explore the ruins of ancient Rome. In the afternoon, visit the Capitoline Museums, which house a vast collection of ancient art and artifacts.

Day 3: Vatican City

Today, visit Vatican City, the smallest country in the world. Start with a tour of St. Peter's Basilica, the largest church in the world. Then, head to the Vatican Museums, which house some of the most famous works of art in the world, including the Sistine Chapel.

Day 4: Trastevere

Spend the day exploring the charming neighborhood of Trastevere, known for its narrow streets, colorful buildings, and lively nightlife. Visit the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of the oldest churches in Rome, and enjoy lunch at one of the many trattorias in the area.

Day 5: Appian Way and Catacombs

Take a break from the city and head to the Appian Way, one of the oldest and most important roads in ancient Rome. Walk along the road and visit the Catacombs of San Callisto, where early Christians were buried. In the afternoon, visit the Baths of Caracalla, one of the largest and most impressive public baths in ancient Rome.

Day 6: Borghese Gallery

Today, visit the Borghese Gallery, which houses a stunning collection of art and sculptures from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Afterward, take a stroll through the nearby Villa Borghese park and enjoy the beautiful views of the city.

Day 7: Food Tour

No trip to Rome is complete without indulging in the city's delicious cuisine. Take a food tour and sample some of Rome's most famous dishes, including pizza, pasta, gelato, and wine. In the evening, head to the trendy neighborhood of Testaccio and enjoy dinner at one of the many hip restaurants in the area.

Day 8: Ostia Antica

Take a day trip to Ostia Antica, an ancient Roman port city located just outside of Rome. Explore the ruins of the city, including the amphitheater, forum, and public baths. In the evening, return to Rome and enjoy dinner at one of the city's many seafood restaurants.

Day 9: Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps

Visit two of Rome's most famous landmarks today: the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. Throw a coin into the fountain for good luck and climb the steps for a beautiful view of the city. In the evening, head to the trendy neighborhood of Monti and enjoy dinner at one of the many hip restaurants in the area.

Day 10: Shopping and Departure

Spend your last day in Rome shopping for souvenirs and gifts to bring back home. Visit the local markets and boutiques and pick up some Italian leather goods, ceramics, and jewelry. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at one of Rome's top restaurants before departing for home.
