Seattle is a fantastic city for outdoor family adventures, and I’m excited to help you plan a fun-filled two-day itinerary. Let’s dive right in!
Day 1: Exploring Nature and Iconic Views
Morning: Start your day at , Seattle’s largest green space. With over 500 acres of forest, beaches, and trails, it’s perfect for a family hike. You can take the Loop Trail for stunning views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Don’t forget to check out the historic West Point Lighthouse! Pack a picnic breakfast to enjoy on the beach or at one of the park’s picnic areas.
Lunch: After your morning adventure, head over to the (Hiram M. Chittenden Locks). It’s a short drive from . You can watch boats pass through the locks and see salmon swimming upstream in the fish ladder (if you’re visiting during the right season). There are lovely gardens nearby where you can have a picnic lunch or grab a bite at a nearby café.
Afternoon: Next, make your way to the . It’s a fantastic place for families, with a variety of animal exhibits and beautiful grounds to explore. The zoo is very walkable, and you can easily spend a few hours here. Don’t miss the Tropical Rain Forest and the African Savanna exhibits!
Evening: As the sun begins to set, head to for one of the best views of the Seattle skyline. It’s a small park, but the view is absolutely breathtaking, especially at sunset. It’s a great spot for family photos! After soaking in the view, you can head to a nearby restaurant in the Queen Anne neighborhood for dinner. Tilikum Place Café is a cozy spot with delicious options.
Day 2: Waterfront Wonders and Urban Nature
Morning: Start your second day with a trip to in West Seattle. It’s a beautiful sandy beach with stunning views of the city skyline. You can rent bikes or rollerblades to cruise along the waterfront path, or just enjoy a leisurely stroll. There are also playgrounds for the kids to enjoy! Grab breakfast at one of the beachside cafés, like Salty’s on , which has a great view.
Lunch: After your beach fun, head back to downtown Seattle and visit the on the waterfront. It’s a fantastic place to learn about marine life native to the Pacific Northwest. The touch pools are always a hit with kids! After exploring the aquarium, you can grab lunch at one of the nearby seafood restaurants, like Ivar’s Acres of Clams.
Afternoon: No trip to Seattle is complete without a visit to ! Stroll through the market, watch the famous fish throwers, and explore the various stalls. Don’t forget to stop by the Gum Wall for a quirky family photo! You can also pick up some local snacks or treats to enjoy later.
Evening: Waterfront Park and Ferris Wheel Wrap up your day with a visit to . It’s a lovely area to relax and enjoy the views of Elliott Bay. If you’re up for it, take a ride on the for a fun family experience and a different perspective of the city as the sun sets. For dinner, consider dining at The Crab Pot for a fun, hands-on seafood experience.
