Itinerary

Xi'an is a city with a rich history and culture, and there are plenty of things to see and do. Here's an ideal itinerary for 5 days in Xi'an:

Day 1: Arrival and City Tour

  • Arrive in Xi'an and check into your hotel.
  • Start your day by visiting the ancient City Wall, which is one of the best-preserved city walls in China. You can rent a bike or walk along the wall to enjoy the view of the city.
  • After that, head to the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, which are located in the heart of the city. These towers were used to keep time during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
  • In the evening, visit the Muslim Quarter, which is famous for its street food and night market.

Day 2: Terracotta Warriors and Huaqing Hot Springs

  • Today, you'll visit the world-famous Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum, which is about an hour's drive from the city center. This museum houses thousands of life-sized terracotta soldiers, horses, and chariots that were buried with Emperor Qin Shi Huang.
  • After that, head to Huaqing Hot Springs, which is a scenic area that was once the site of a royal palace. The hot springs here have been used for over 3,000 years and are said to have healing properties.

Day 3: Mount Huashan

  • Today, you'll take a day trip to Mount Huashan, which is one of the five sacred mountains in China. It's about a two-hour drive from Xi'an, but it's worth it for the stunning views and challenging hiking trails.
  • There are several routes to choose from, but the most popular is the Plank Walk, which involves walking on narrow planks attached to the side of a cliff.

Day 4: Shaanxi History Museum and Big Wild Goose Pagoda

  • Start your day by visiting the Shaanxi History Museum, which is one of the best museums in China. It houses over 370,000 artifacts that showcase the history and culture of Shaanxi Province.
  • After that, head to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which is a Buddhist pagoda that was built during the Tang Dynasty. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers great views of the city from the top.

Day 5: Small Wild Goose Pagoda and Departure

  • On your last day in Xi'an, visit the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, which is another Buddhist pagoda that was built during the Tang Dynasty. It's smaller than the Big Wild Goose Pagoda but just as impressive.
  • After that, you can do some last-minute shopping or try some more street food before heading to the airport for your departure flight.

I hope this itinerary helps you plan your trip to Xi'an!
