Spending a day in The Hague (Den Haag) is a fantastic choice. This city is rich in history, culture, and beautiful architecture. Let’s make the most of your day with a fun and engaging itinerary that incorporates buses, trams, and plenty of walking. Here we go!
8:30 AM - Breakfast at a Local Café Start your day with a delicious breakfast at a cozy café. I recommend Café de la Paix near the Binnenhof. Enjoy a classic Dutch breakfast with some fresh bread, cheese, and perhaps a stroopwafel for a sweet treat!
9:30 AM - Visit the Binnenhof After breakfast, take a short walk to the Binnenhof, the political heart of the Netherlands. You can admire the stunning architecture and take a guided tour if you’re interested in the history of Dutch politics. Don’t forget to snap some photos by the fountain!
10:30 AM - Mauritshuis Museum Just a short walk away is the Mauritshuis, home to masterpieces by Vermeer, Rembrandt, and other Dutch masters. Spend about an hour here soaking in the art and history. The building itself is a beautiful 17th-century mansion!
12:00 PM - Lunch at the Plein Head over to the Plein, a lively square filled with restaurants and cafés. Grab a light lunch at Restaurant M or try some traditional Dutch pancakes at Pannenkoekenhuis.
1:00 PM - Stroll through the Hofvijver After lunch, take a leisurely stroll around the Hofvijver (the pond next to the Binnenhof). It’s a lovely spot to relax and enjoy the views of the historic buildings.
1:30 PM - Visit the Escher in Het Paleis Hop on tram 1 or 9 from the Plein to the Escher in Het Paleis museum. This unique museum is dedicated to the works of M.C. Escher, and it’s located in a former royal palace. The optical illusions and mind-bending art will surely captivate you!
3:00 PM - Walk to the Peace Palace After exploring Escher, take a 20-minute walk to the Peace Palace. This iconic building houses the International Court of Justice. While you can’t go inside without a tour, the gardens are beautiful and worth a visit.
4:00 PM - Visit the Haagse Bos From the Peace Palace, take a short walk to the Haagse Bos, a lovely forested area perfect for a peaceful stroll. Enjoy the fresh air and maybe even spot some local wildlife!
5:30 PM - Dinner in the City Center Head back towards the city center and treat yourself to dinner at Restaurant De Basiliek or Bistro Bar Bouchon. Both offer a cozy atmosphere and delicious Dutch and international cuisine.
7:00 PM - Evening Stroll or Tram Ride to Scheveningen If you’re up for it, take tram 1 or 9 to Scheveningen Beach. Enjoy a lovely evening stroll along the beach promenade, and if you’re lucky, you might catch a beautiful sunset over the North Sea!
8:30 PM - End the ## Day with a Drink Wrap up your day with a drink at one of the beach bars, like The Beach House or Brouwerij de Prael, where you can relax and reflect on your wonderful day in The Hague.
I hope you have an amazing day in The Hague! If you have any other questions or need more recommendations, feel free to ask!
