Itinerary

Iceland is a beautiful country with so much to offer, and Reykjavik is the perfect place to start your adventure. Here's an ideal itinerary for 4 days in Reykjavik, Iceland:

Day 1:

  • Start your day with a hearty breakfast at one of Reykjavik's many cafes. I recommend trying out Sandholt Bakery or Reykjavik Roasters.
  • After breakfast, head over to Hallgrimskirkja, the iconic church that dominates the Reykjavik skyline. Take the elevator to the top for stunning views of the city.
  • Next, visit the Harpa Concert Hall, a beautiful glass building located on the waterfront. Take a guided tour to learn about its unique architecture and history.
  • For lunch, try some traditional Icelandic cuisine at Cafe Loki, located across from Hallgrimskirkja. Don't miss the rye bread ice cream!
  • Spend the afternoon exploring the city's museums. The National Museum of Iceland and the Reykjavik Art Museum are both great options.
  • End your day with a soak in one of Reykjavik's famous geothermal pools. The Blue Lagoon is a bit outside the city, but it's worth the trip.

Day 2:

  • Today, take a day trip to the Golden Circle, a popular tourist route that includes three of Iceland's most famous attractions: Thingvellir National Park, Geysir, and Gullfoss waterfall. You can book a tour or rent a car and drive yourself.
  • Start at Thingvellir National Park, where you can walk between the tectonic plates that separate Europe and North America.
  • Next, visit Geysir, where you can see the famous Strokkur geyser erupt every few minutes.
  • Finally, head to Gullfoss waterfall, one of Iceland's most impressive natural wonders.
  • On your way back to Reykjavik, stop at Fridheimar greenhouse for lunch. They grow tomatoes year-round and serve delicious tomato soup and bread.

Day 3:

  • Today, explore Reykjavik's vibrant street art scene. Take a self-guided walking tour of the city's murals and graffiti.
  • For lunch, try some Icelandic hot dogs at Baejarins Beztu Pylsur, a famous hot dog stand near the harbor.
  • In the afternoon, visit the Perlan Museum, located on top of a hill with panoramic views of the city. The museum has interactive exhibits about Iceland's natural wonders and history.
  • End your day with a Northern Lights tour. Iceland is one of the best places in the world to see the aurora borealis, and many tour companies offer guided trips outside the city to view the lights.

Day 4:

  • Start your day with a leisurely breakfast at Bergsson Mathus, a cozy cafe with delicious pastries and coffee.
  • Next, take a whale watching tour from the harbor. You'll have the chance to see humpback whales, minke whales, dolphins, and more.
  • For lunch, head to Reykjavik's Old Harbor and try some fresh seafood at Saegreifinn (The Seabaron).
  • Spend the afternoon shopping for souvenirs and exploring Reykjavik's boutiques and galleries. Don't miss the Icelandic design shops on Laugavegur street.
  • End your trip with a dinner at Dill, one of Reykjavik's most acclaimed restaurants. They specialize in modern Icelandic cuisine using local ingredients.

I hope this itinerary helps you plan your solo trip to Reykjavik, Iceland!
